Dear Friends & Family:                                                                        December 5, 2007

Genesis at the Crossroads (GATC) is proud to share with you our last eight years worth of programs along with our ever-present concern that our work has barely just begun.  As you know, we are a not-for-profit organization which uses the arts to bridge cultures in conflict and creates and implements innovative arts-education programs worldwide. To date, GATC has created and produced over 95 cross-cultural collaborative performances and programs, three nationally touring concerts of Arab and Jewish musicians, (three performances at the Kennedy Center) as well as our Israeli-Palestinian collaboration Gesher-Jisr, Building Bridges performance featured at the United Nations’ 60th Anniversary Celebration.

This year hailed as the world premiere of our very own Genesis World Music Ensemble, uniting artists from countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Iran, Morocco and the US to collaboratively create new art for our recent Chicago and DC (Kennedy Center) performances this past August.  Casablanca will be the first stop on an international 18 city tour over two years, to share our vision and model for cross-cultural collaboration throughout the world.  Our upcoming  December 2007 Casablanca concert will be broadcast on 98.7 WFMT and their radio network throughout the US and Europe, along with satellite radio to collectively reach a potential 40 million people worldwide.  Future performance destinations include cities in North and South America, Europe, Turkey and especially the Middle East. We will integrate artist-in-residency master classes and other educational programs into each site’s programming, to further the influence of our work.

The continued growth of our thriving organization includes our international humanitarian work with children (at LA’s Museum of Tolerance this Fall; traveling to other US museums en route to Baghdad through 2008.) GATC’s aid in the renovation of the Casablanca Conservatory of Music, with cross-cultural music exchanges, benefits participating communities and students.  Our  public school curriculum explores personal and cultural identity through ethnic music and storytelling  along with educational models to promote academic excellence while fostering cultural awareness.

Our brand of arts diplomacy has garnered the attention of the US Department of State with allocation of funds from their prestigious Performing Arts Initiative as well as the Illinois Arts Council’s Governor’s International Arts Exchange Program. Despite these honors and the support  that comes with them, along with underwriting from corporations and foundations, we cannot continue the breadth and depth of our programs without your contribution.  Without this aid, we simply cannot impact all of the children we must reach and those communities that need any and every precious model for collaboration transcending all barriers.

As the year comes to a close and the holidays draw near, please take a moment to consider  what your donation to Genesis at the Crossroads can do for this troubled world and the future student leaders we desperately need to educate.  We believe the arts touch the human spirit in many ways, find connections between diverse people and link us all for the greater good of humankind.  On behalf of our Board of Directors, please know that your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely yours,

Wendy Sternberg, MD
