HAMSA-Fest –Outdoor Weekend Summer Festival of Middle Eastern
& North African Art
The 2007 Third Bi-annual Summer Festival (Aug 25-26th) will again engage people of all ages to not only experience a taste of the region through its art and food, but also examine and challenge their own beliefs about personal and cultural identity.
A children’s tent will feature dedicated performances/ workshops, including the instrument-making workshop by the Chicago Children’s Museum. Summer festival headliners include Moroccan Oud virtuoso, Haj Youness with Cantor Alberto Mizrahi, and Guest Artist, diatonic harmonica legend, Howard Levy, Persian guitarist, Shahin Shahida and Afghan vocalist/instrumentalist, Humayun Khan, Persian instrumentalist, Farshid Soltanshahi, Lebanese Christine Atallah & The Bassalindos, Pharoah’s Daughter, Paul Reisler & Kid Pan Alley, Deeply Rooted Dance Company along with many others.
Phase II of ARTSLINK Casablanca includes our cross-cultural finale; tours to The Kennedy Center in DC and Casablanca, Morocco (Tour 8/27-9/1).
